Is your llms.txt valid?
Type your domain. We fetch /llms.txt, check it against the published format, test the pages it links to, and compare it with your robots.txt and sitemap.
What this checks
- Present: /llms.txt answers 200 with text, not an HTML error page.
- Valid: one title line (# Name) first, a short summary (> line), then ## sections that hold lists of [name](url): note links.
- Consistent: the pages it lists load, robots.txt lets the AI crawlers fetch them, and the sitemap knows them.
What a valid file does and does not do
llms.txt is a proposal for a plain-text map of your site for assistants. No major assistant has confirmed that it reads the file, so a valid file does not promise citations. It is cheap to publish and a good test of whether your own site map is in order; the crawler access check matters more.
Where it lives
The file must sit at the root: https://yourshop.com/llms.txt. A file on a subpath, or one that redirects to a login or an HTML page, does not count.
