Checks / Titles, headings and schema
Title starts with the brand, so the topic is cut first
When most titles open with the same brand name and run past 60 characters, search results cut the end, which is the part that says what this page is about.
title_brand_first · Titles, headings and schema · Notice
What triggers it
On a site with at least 8 indexable pages, at least 60% of the titles start with the same segment of 30 characters or fewer (the brand), and a page's title starts with it and runs over 60 characters.
What to change
Keep the whole title within 60 characters so no part is cut. Where it has to be longer, put the page's own key words first and the brand after them (Topic | Brand).
Example
HTML to put in the page:
<title>Blue trail running shoes | Example Shop</title>
How to confirm the fix
- Compare the titles in the export: the page's own words come first, the brand last
- Run a new crawl
