How the backlink lookup works: method and limits
Source: Common Crawl's public domain web graph, built from three monthly crawls (134,979,706 domains, 1,817,202,146 links). We count distinct linking domains, not pages, and do not use any third-party backlink index. Common Crawl samples the web, so counts are lower than a full index such as Ahrefs or Semrush; use them to compare sites and spot big referrers, not as an exact total. Updated each quarter, last graph: cc-main-2026-aug-sep-oct. Nofollow and link position are not in this data. Adult-content domains are left out of the list, so a page can show fewer than 30. Spam and link-network domains are shown as they are.
Each table lists a site's own strongest referrers. Referrers that are among the strongest for at least 3% of the 5,011 sites in this data (google.com, wikipedia.org, blogspot.com and similar) say little about one site, so they are named in one line under the table instead of taking its rows.
